FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CCL Executive Director to attend COP27
Nov. 1, 2022 – Madeleine Para, Citizens’ Climate Lobby’s executive director, is set to attend the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27). Para will be available for interviews in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from Friday, Nov. 4 to Sunday, Nov. 13.
Para will attend the conference with the Conservative Climate Foundation, alongside the congressional delegation from the Conservative Climate Caucus. The group will include representatives from Republican congressional offices, and several members of Congress themselves, to be announced later this week.
“I am honored to spend this time with some of the most dedicated climate advocates in the world,” Para said. “As the head of a nonpartisan climate organization, it’s particularly exciting to be at COP27 with sitting Republican lawmakers. We need every congressperson from both major parties to step up their climate ambition. This is a great opportunity for us all to learn and move forward together.”
Para will also get to spend time with members of Citizens’ Climate International (CCI), our sister organization supporting climate advocacy outside of the United States. CCI will participate in COP27 with a delegation of 15, focused in policy areas from civics to finance to food.
“A major area of interest for us, and a key goal, is progress toward the highest ambition vision of the ‘non-market approaches’ invited by paragraph 8 of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement—effectively everything countries can do to cooperate to accelerate climate action. That means pollution pricing, border adjustments, and trade policy,” said Joe Robertson, CCI’s executive director.
