CCL applauds bipartisan introduction of sweeping energy permitting bill
July 23, 2024, Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) introduced the Energy Permitting Act of 2024, which would make a range of critical updates to the federal energy permitting process.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby thanks Sen. Manchin and Sen. Barrasso for their bipartisan leadership on the important issue of clean energy permitting reform. America’s current permitting process delays clean energy projects and presents a significant barrier to achieving America’s climate goals.
“At the end of the day, building clean energy infrastructure is one of the most significant things we can do to reduce carbon pollution,” said Ben Pendergrass, Vice President of Government Affairs for Citizens’ Climate Lobby. “The Energy Permitting Act of 2024 represents a giant leap down the path of building new clean energy infrastructure that will lower emissions, decrease costs, and increase reliability for people nationwide.”
The legislation will achieve those outcomes thanks to reforms in these areas and more:
electrical transmission and reliability
renewable energy
judicial review
geothermal and hydropower energy
Citizens’ Climate Lobby — a nationwide network of more than 220,000 supporters — has been mobilizing in support of measures like these throughout the year, most recently with 442 in–person meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill last month.
