CCL statement on attempts to repeal IRA climate provisions
April 20, 2023 – Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) strongly opposes any repeal or reduction of the clean energy and climate provisions included as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) signed into law last year. Climate is a present and growing threat to our communities, to our economy, and to our national security. The climate provisions of the IRA are a major step on America’s pathway to reducing its emissions and will help America lead the world in development of affordable clean energy production. It also creates economic benefits and jobs throughout the country, while protecting people’s health and reducing a range of pollutants. It makes no sense to repeal this landmark legislation.
CCL acknowledges the process for passage of the IRA was partisan, and we continue to believe climate action should and can be bipartisan. However, many of the individual climate and clean energy provisions of the IRA have had and continue to have bipartisan support and will bring benefits to all Americans.
We call on Congress to reject any attempt to repeal these provisions as part of the debt ceiling debate. We also remain committed to working with both sides of the aisle to find common ground on pragmatic solutions to address climate.
